Yesterday I went to Yohji Yamamoto's exhibition at the V&A Museum. The exhibition included over 60 of Yamamoto's creations, catalogues/lookbooks and videos of catwalks and interviews. I found the more personal parts particularly intriguing, such as the designer's biography 'My Dear Bomb', his love of music (you can listen to his albums) and information on his hobbies. I love the dress and hat below (S/S '97) for Yamamoto's vibrant use of colour which stood out amongst the more common black garments - black being 'a colour that he describes as "modest and arrogant at the same time"'(Yohji Yamamoto Exhibition Guide, V&A). The gift shop also sold a wide variety of Yamamoto designs including notebooks, t-shirts, bags and badges. Definitely worth a visit if you like this designer. £5 for students, V&A, 12 March - 10 July 2011 http://www.vam.ac.uk/collections/fashion/yohji-yamamoto/index.html
