I do... love Vogue

I am LOVING this month's issue of Vogue (May 2011), which has three collectable covers shot by Mario Testino (it is the first time British Vogue has had a multi-cover edition). If you've ever fantasized about your big day, Vogue gives you the designer wedding dresses to fantasize about. So appropriate for the month of the Royal Wedding, and the anticipation is causing everyone to eagerly await the first glimpse of Catherine Middleton's dress - I'm thinking some sort of Grace Kelly-style lace bodice and beautiful train (but not ridiculously long)? There's also a gorgeous spread from Tim Walker of Agyness Dean, in which she looks soft and feminine; a refreshing change from the usual androgynous punk image of her.

I love fresh citrus colours as they really get me in the mood for summer. If you loved the citrus prints at Stella McCartney's SS11 catwalk collection, check out the bargain dress below, £9 from Primark! I love the pretty 50's shape, so cute for garden parties.

Yohji Yamamoto at V&A

Yesterday I went to Yohji Yamamoto's exhibition at the V&A Museum. The exhibition included over 60 of Yamamoto's creations, catalogues/lookbooks and videos of catwalks and interviews. I found the more personal parts particularly intriguing, such as the designer's biography 'My Dear Bomb', his love of music (you can listen to his albums) and information on his hobbies. I love the dress and hat below (S/S '97) for Yamamoto's vibrant use of colour which stood out amongst the more common black garments - black being 'a colour that he describes as "modest and arrogant at the same time"'(Yohji Yamamoto Exhibition Guide, V&A). The gift shop also sold a wide variety of Yamamoto designs including notebooks, t-shirts, bags and badges. Javier Vallhonrat

At the moment I'm researching into circus themes for a photoshoot in late April and just wanted to share my appreciation for fashion photographer Javier Vallhonrat. He captures such a beautiful dreamlike quality to his images and I love his use of colour and texture.

spring/summer buys!

As the weather is getting warmer, I've recently added two new 'must-have' pieces to my wardrobe for spring and summer. The first is a button-front playsuit in a dusky pink colour, which has crisscross ties at the back so it can be worn fitted or loose. I love it for its versatility as it can be worn in the daytime with sandals; with tights and a cropped chunky knit jumper and military boots for a casual look or with black platforms for going out.

The second of my purchases was this soft coral pink dress with frill neck detailing and buttoned front. I love the colour and I will wear this in the day with sandals (and leggings) and for evening dinner dates.

A fresh start with space-age sixties

I haven't posted in such a long time due to deadlines and then I've slipped out of the habit! But enough of the excuses, I'm back to blog for good.
So since my last post I researched into space-age sixties fashion for a historical photoshoot. Taking inspiration from the futuristic 1960's designs from Andres Courreges, Paco Rabanne and Pierre Cardin, I photographed and styled the below shoot. I like the bright, futuristic effect of the images with the blue tint, but am currently experimenting with texture and saturation to give the images an authentic effect.

I'm sorry that it's been ages since my last post! However, the internet's FINALLY been set up in my house so I'll be posting more regularly.
